Do I Need Healing Touch?
Everyone can benefit from receiving Healing Touch. Use it as part of your own personal wellness program to increase energy levels, strengthen the immune system, promote overall health, optimize athletic performance, and develop spiritual connection.
For some, Healing Touch helps reduce the pain and fatigue that may accompany acute or chronic conditions. Many hospitals offer Healing Touch to patients before and after surgery to relieve pain and enhance recovery.
Since healing can occur even when the physical body is unable to recover, Healing Touch is often used with hospice to ease end-of-life transition.
What can I expect from a Healing Touch Session?
The first session involves a consultation as well as the energy session itself. The practitioner will ask questions about your physical, mental, and emotional situation, and answer any questions. Then you will lie fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner places her hands slightly above or gently on you. The energy therapy session generally lasts 40 to 60 minutes.
People normally report feeling deeply relaxed and peaceful during and after the session. You may also perceive heat, tingling or a pulsing sensation flowing from the palms of the practitioner. Results are often subtle. Some recipients notice an increase in energy and awareness. There is often a decrease in pain, stress levels and physical symptoms. Sleep is deeper and more restful as the body returns to a state of balance and harmony.
Is Healing Touch like Reiki?
Both are energy therpies but there are several significant differences. Healing Touch has an established core curriculum with five levels of training and a full year of mentorship, followed by a rigorous certification process administered by Healing Touch International. Healing Touch also has multiple techniques specific to particular conditions. Healing Touch is the only energy therapy endorsed by the American Holistic Nurse's Association.
How did Healing Touch start?
Janet Mentgen, RN, founded Healing Touch in 1989 first as a continuing education program for nurses and massage therapists, and later opened to other health care professionals and lay persons.
Over the last 25 years of her life she was committed to studying, practicing, and teaching energy therapies. Healing Touch developed from her study and experience
with other healers and her own practice and teaching through courses she offered in nursing continuing education in a Denver community college in the 1980’s. Her healing practice helped her understand and implement the energy techniques and provided the basis for the self care emphasis within the curriculum.
