I have been one of those lucky people that knew from a very early age what I wanted to do with my life. Nursing was my calling and I graduated from Molloy College on Long Island 31 years ago with a BS in Nursing.
I started my career working on a Medical Surgical unit then I did Hospice nursing for several years. When I moved to New Jersey in 1986 I worked at Warren County Public Health Nursing Agency. There I was a Home Care Nurse for 18 years and then a supervisor for another 4.
Due to the ever changing health care system, I was finding it more and more difficult being the type of nurse I wanted and needed to be. I felt that most of my time was spend on teaching medications and doing paper work. I lost the focus of heart centered, individual, holistic care.
In 1997 I became very ill with Lyme Disease and was forced to work part time due to pain, decreased strength and extreme fatigue. I was on large amounts of antibiotics and told to “live with” the symptoms.
I heard about a two day class given in Denville, NJ on Healing Touch—it sounded very interesting to me and I could receive continuing education credits which I need to renew my nursing license. That class changed my life, both personally and professionally. A self care technique is taught at that class (and I teach it to my clients today) which helped all the symptoms of the Lyme Disease. I felt better physically and found a new hope for a healthy, fulfilling future that had been lost to me. I continued my education in Healing Touch and am now a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner. I can now be the kind of nurse I have always dreamed of because of this wonderful work.
The most important thing I have learned since starting my own practice is that there are NO limits to what Healing Touch can do physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
